DESCRIPTION:Nicholas Roy (Zoox and MIT)\n\n \n\nHow we design and deploy au
tonomous robots such as self-driving cars is evolving rapidly. Many techni
cal challenges arise as the size of the fleet scales up\, and especially e
nsuring robustness and safety. I will describe some of the design decision
s in developing a self-driving robotaxi system at scale\, some of the cand
idate solutions\, and open questions for the future. \n\n \n\nNicholas Roy
is the Autonomy Architecture lead at Zoox. He and his team address techni
cal challenges that cut across the autonomy verticals\, leading the design
and deployment of cross-functional capabilities in the Zoox autonomy syst
em. He is also the Hunsaker Professor of Aeronautics & Astronautics and a
member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSA
IL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on
decision-making under uncertainty\, mobile robot autonomy and human-robot
 interaction.
