New England Systems Day (NESD) is a one-day workshop that brings together researchers and students working in computer systems across the New England region. NESD provides a friendly and focused forum to share ideas, exchange feedback, and strengthen connections within the regional systems community.

Speakers primarily come from institutions including MIT, Harvard, Boston University, Northeastern University, UMass, Brown University, Columbia University, NYU, Brandeis, and Tufts. This year marks the second in-person NESD after the pandemic, continuing the tradition of fostering open discussion and collaboration among systems researchers at all stages.

NESD features short lightning talks from students and researchers across New England on any topic in computer systems. Talks may present early-stage ideas, ongoing projects, or recently published work. We particularly encourage student participation and informal presentations that spark discussion.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating Systems

  • Distributed Systems

  • File and Storage Systems

  • Systems Security

  • Machine Learning Systems

  • Big Data Systems

  • Embedded Systems

  • Networking

  • Computer Architecture

  • Programming Languages

  • Other topics related to computer systems

We welcome participants from all backgrounds in systems research and look forward to an engaging day of talks and discussion.
